Multnomah Falls - Columbia Gorge, Oregon

Just a short 30 minute drive from Portland, Oregon, Multnomah Falls has been a source of wonder for as many years as mankind has lived in the area. The falls and accompanying lodge (built in 1925) are within minutes of walking distance from the parking lot just off 1-84. Multnomah Falls towers above the landscape at 611 feet from top to bottom. Although the best time to visit the falls is between spring and summer, wintertime in the Columbia Gorge adds a special touch all its own, when the temperature gets cold enough to freeze portions of the falls. There are hiking trails available with varying degrees of difficulty.

There is a gift store at the base of the lodge, as well as a refreshment stand and restrooms. The area can get a little crowded on weekends with good weather, so if you can visit it on a weekday, do so.
